Without surgery, the prognosis is poor with 50% 3 year mortality rate, once symptoms of angina, cardiac failure or syncopal attacks set in. sudden death can occur in 15-20% of patients with symptomatic aortic stenosis surgical mortality from valve replacement is 2-5%
